What is it "Turrón"?

"Turrón" is a Spanish dessert or candy that is basically a nougat, or a combination of sugar, honey, almonds and egg whites.

The Spanish word "turrón" is pronounced 'two-rone'. It has an interesting history that goes back many centuries, and with time this popular treat has evolved and now comes in a variety of different combinations and flavor. The most important are "Jijona" and "Alicante".

The “Mantecado” is possibly the more humble and accessible of Christmas candy, by which is never lacking in any Spanish table on those dates, whatever their social status. The "Mantecados" have originated in Andalusia (Antequera or Estepa) and, for once, do not have Muslim origin, essentially by the primary component is lard.
